Acadia University, the first university in Canada to offer an undergraduate e-commerce program in computer science, also offers a certificate that can be tailored to your particular career or academic needs. This 30 credit-hour program is the perfect opportunity to earn the equivalent of a first-year university program, while specializing in a very important field right from the start.

The Certificate in Computer Science provides the opportunity to become a proficient programmer in Java and C Programming languages and to acquire valuable knowledge and skills for work as an entry-level programmer in fields such as telecommunications and software development.

The Certificate in Computer Science is comprised of the following courses:

  • COMP 1113 Computer Programming 1
  • COMP 1123 Computer Programming 2
  • COMP 2103 Computer Programming 3
  • COMP 2113 Data Structures Algorithms
  • COMP 2203 Computer Architecture and Organization 1
  • COMP 2213 Computer Architecture and Organization 2
  • MATH 1413 Discrete Mathematics and Matrix Algebra
  • MATH 2433 Graph Theory and Algebraic Structures*1
  • 6 credit hour Computer Science elective at the 2000+ level

* Coming Soon

September 1, 2010 Math 2433 will be replaced by MATH 1323. Athabasca University's MATH 270 is an acceptible transfer credit for Acadia's MATH 1323.

Admission Requirements: Nova Scotia Grade 12 (including pre-calculus) or equivalent. Students who do not qualify for admission based on these requirements may apply as a mature student. Please see our Admission and Registration section for more information.
