New Graduate Education StudentsStudents require an Acadia University Identification cardprovided by the Office of Safety and Security in order to access facilities on campus, including the Vaughan Memorial Library. ID cards will be available at the first class for those students who register by June 12. Students require access to a computer. Acadia no longer provides laptops to students. However, as a registered student of Acadia University you can purchase an Acadia supported computer at a generous saving through the Acadia online store. Students require an Acadia University e-mail account. All e-mail communication sent by Acadia University will go to the student’s Acadia e-mail address. Once registered, students must set up their e-mail address following the instructions available here. Students will use the Acadia network account to access course content which instructors put on the Acadia courseware management system (ACORN/Moodle). The following information will assist you in planning your summer study. Once you have selected courses scheduled for your cohort, you must register online. Cohort students who are unable to take courses as scheduled may experience a delay in completing their degree. Although every effort will be made to assist students who miss a course meet degree requirements, some courses are restricted and offered infrequently. Courses are also subject to maximum enrollment limits. Please download and print your planner sheet: Curriculum Studies Enter your courses on this sheet once you register for them. It is the graduate student’s responsibility to track their own progress through their degree program using the University Academic Calendar and their program planner sheet, paying careful attention to degree requirements, regulations, and important dates. Exceptional circumstances requiring academic advising may be directed to graded@acadiau.ca Full-time Students are reminded to check the course listing tab on the Open Acadia website to confirm their course start and end dates. The MEd in Counselling begins in the summer semester for both full time and part time students.
Summer Intersession Registration Deadline: Intersession course registrations are managed by Open Acadia. Courses are subject to minimum and maximum enrollments. You are advised to register early to avoid disappointment. If you are unable to take a course as scheduled please inform Open Acadia by June 12 at the latest. After this date courses will be filled from a wait-list of interested applicants. Courses with low enrollments are subject to cancellation.
Course Load – A full-time student is defined as one who takes 9h or more per term. The normal expectation for part-time students is one 3h course per term, with the exception of summer school. In the M.Ed. Counselling program, fall and winter courses that have an “X” for the course section are available only to full-time students. Thesis Registration: Prior to thesis registration students must complete 9h including EDUC 5513 – Research Design and EDUC 5113 – Qualitative Research Methods. Priorities for Registering: Enrollment is limited in education courses. Registrations are due by 4 pm (AST) on the publicized registraion due date. After this date spaces remaining are filled on a first-come, first-served basis until the course is full. Some courses and programs have specific restrictions on who may take courses. The following priorities apply for registration until 4 pm (AST) on the registration due date:
