Certificate in French Proficiency
The summer institute will be held July 9-20, 2012.
The French Proficiency program offers French language teachers and other interested individuals the opportunity to improve their level of French language skill as part of their personal and professional development. Participants in this 30 credit-hour certificate will acquire a functional command of French by upgrading their speaking, reading, listening, and writing skills. The certificate is designed to accommodate participants at any proficiency level, from true beginners to advanced learners. Upon completing the program, participants must take the internationally recognized test of French proficiency, the TCF - Test de connaissance du français.
- Complete up to 6 credit-hours (2 courses) every summer during intensive sessions on our beautiful campus
- Qualify for an Advanced Teacher’s Certificate 1 (ATC 1), upon approval from the Nova Scotia Department of Education

Getting Started
1. Take the placement test to determine your starting level in the program. The test is found here.
Generally, students scoring with an intermediate knowledge of French will start with FRAN 1213, 1223. Students with an advanced knowledge of French will start with French 2013, 2023. In exceptional cases, students with little or no knowledge of French may be placed in French 1113, 1123 (available online), but must in this case complete 36 credit hours. It is advisable to discuss your starting level before registering. Please contact us for assistance.
2. Complete the Admission and Registration Form.
- You are applying to the Certificate in French Proficiency (CFP).
- Returning students will not be charged the $25.00 admission fee again.
- Tuition payment is required at time of registration.
3. Book accommodations on campus if needed.
