English for Professional Purposes

EPP courses help you improve your communication skills to achieve your career goals.Students 2.jpg

These courses are for you if you want to use English for:

  • applying for jobs in English
  • working in Canada or the US
  • communicating with English speakers at work
  • travel

In EPP you learn with hands on instruction, by creating documents and projects for your professional portfolio. You will learn how to:

  • participate actively in small group discussions
  • present your ideas clearly to an audience using current technological resources
  • negotiate effectively
  • conduct interviews and surveys
  • listen and take notes during meetings and presentations
  • improve your pronunciation
  • speak clearly and accurately
  • communicate effectively on the telephone as well as with video conferencing technology

What you get from the Program

Every student leaves the program with:

  • A portfolio of the work that they have done. This includes resumes, presentations, example business correspondence, and job applications.
  • A TOEIC score that they can present to employers. TOEIC is the standard measure of English for International communication, used by employers for job placements throughout the world.
  • If students complete four courses at the certificate level they will also receive our Certificate of Professional English. This certifies that the student has met the highest standards of English proficiency, and is ready for placement in an English work environment

Courses are four weeks long and start the first week of every month. Please contact acil@acadiau.ca for exact start dates.

Canadian Academic English Language Assessment

Acadia University is an accredited CAEL (Canadian Academic English Language Assessment) testing centre. CAEL is a standardized test of English widely accepted for admission to universities across Canada. It is designed to describe the level of English language capability of students planning to study in English-language colleges and universities.
