Graduate Education Programs for Teachers

Irving.jpgEducation programs at Acadia are recognized by employers in Canada as setting a national standard. The School of Education offers programs leading to a Master of Education degree. Programs are designed to meet the needs of professionals working in the fields of counselling, student services, inclusive education, curriculum development, and administration.

Program Options

Graduate Cohorts

The School of Education in conjunction with OpenAcadia offers admission to MED programs to groups of professional educators living in a specific geographic area or working for a specific school board. An MED program is scheduled for each cohort. Cohort members proceed through the program as a group. If you would like further information on forming a cohort contact the Education Program Coordinator at OpenAcadia.

Summer Institutes

The School of Education in conjunction with Open Acadia offers intensive two-week summer institutes designed to meet the professional development needs of educators.

Priorities for Registering in Education Courses

Enrollment is limited in education courses. Registrations are due by 4 pm (AST) on the publicized registraion due date. After this date spaces remaining are filled on a first-come, first-served basis until the course is full. Some courses and programs have specific restrictions on who may take courses. The following priorities apply for registration until 4 pm (AST) on the registration due date:

  • Priority 1
    Students in a cohort for whom the course is scheduled; and Students who require the course for the next scheduled graduation.
  • Priority 2
    Students fully admitted to School of Education programs for which the course is a degree requirement (see program requirements in the University Calendar).
  • Priority 3
    Students fully admitted to School of Education programs for which the course is a program elective.
  • Priority 4
    All other students who meet the necessary requirements (i.e. admission to Acadia and prerequisites, if any). Independent students are in this category.

Education program requirements vary depending upon whether you choose the thesis, project or course route.
