How to Apply

New Students - Online or On Campus
(A new Student is anyone without an Acadia student number)

  • To register for one or more of the courses complete online  application form form  or download the 2009 TESOL Application Form
  • Send application form, TESOL Certificate fee, and practicum fee (if applicable) to Open Acadia
  • Arrange for transcripts to be sent to the Registrar's Office
  • Pay tuition and student fees to Student Accounts

  • Register for EDUC 4863, 4686 and 4673 through the registrar's online portal        
  • Apply for a practicum - fill in the online application form.
  • Send application form, TESOL Certificate fee, and practicum fee (if applicable) to Open Acadia
  • Pay tuition and student fees to Student Accounts

TESOL Certificate Fee and Practicum Fee

If you are interested in applying for TESL Canada Certification, you must take all three courses and a practicum. You must also submit a TESOL certificate fee. If you are completing only part of the program (e.g. 1 or 2 courses), you do not need to pay the certificate fee. It is also possible to register and pay for a practicum at a later date.

 

Entrance Requirements

To qualify for admission, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  1. You must meet the entrance requirements for Acadia University.
  2. You must have some undergraduate course experience since these are upper level undergraduate courses, or permission from the program cordinator.
  3. Trainees who are non-native speakers of English must prove proficiency in English by submitting official documentation for one of the following English proficiency tests before they commence the program. 
  • TOEFL Computer based 237 / Paper based 580 and TWE 5 (5.5 is recommended) and TSE 55(60 is recommended)
  • TOEFL iBT 93 overall with a minimum score of 20 in each area
  • or IELTS 6.5 overall
  • or MELAB 85 / with a speaking test score 4
  • or CanTEST: Listening, Reading, Writing 5; Speaking 4.5
  • or CAEL Band 70 overall, with a min. of 60 in each of the writing and speaking subtests
  • high school graduation from a high school in Canada, including minimum English Grade 12 score of 70%
  • completion of an undergraduate degree from an English-speaking university
  • Common European Framework: C1
  • Canadian Language Benchmarks: 9 in each area

Students should also verify that they meet the recommended technical requirements for the course.
